DESCRIPTION:
Myanmar, August 25, 2016 /3BL Media/ - The Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR), co-organized by the Asian Institute of Management-Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Responsibility (AIM-RVR Center) and Asia Inc Forum (AIF), will explore the concept of social innovation and what it means for businesses and communities.
AIM-RVR Center explains social innovation as “a measurable, replicable initiative that uses a new concept or a new application of an existing concept to create shareholder and social value.”
An increasing number of businesses are evolving corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices into social innovation initiatives, largely because it makes business sense.
“Many corporations now recognize that it’s not only a matter of ‘giving back’ to communities. Corporations are beginning to realize that as members of a larger society, they play a bigger role in addressing the world’s most pressing issues,” explains Conference Chairman Dato Timothy Ong. “This year’s AFCSR offers a venue for conversations around social innovation and how the private sector can impact upon our societies more profoundly.”
Meanwhile, Conference Executive Director Dr. Francisco L. Roman, Jr. emphasizes that social innovation is highly relevant for businesses.
“What we are seeing now is that the metrics for business performance are changing,” Dr. Roman explains. “Sustainability and environmental impact are now becoming important factors for businesses, especially in view of the finite amount of resources available. We are also seeing businesses aspire to a larger purpose, looking at ways to contribute to inclusive growth. Ultimately, these efforts also have an impact on how a business is able to attract and retain the best talent, which in turn, contributes to business continuity and sustainability.”
This year’s AFCSR will be held on 20-21 September 2016 at the Kempinski Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. Delegates will also be given access to the Myanmar Business Roundtable on the afternoon of September 19. The Myanmar Roundtable is a pre-AFCSR dialogue focusing on the country’s business landscape and key considerations for doing business.
The line-up of speakers includes: Dado Banatao, Chairman of the Philippine Development Foundation; Serge Pun, Chairman of the SPA Group and Yoma Strategic Holdings; Mom Rajawongse Pridiyathorn Devakula, former Governor of the Bank of Thailand and former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand; Chandran Nair, founder and CEO of the Global Institute for Tomorrow; Runa Khan, Executive Director of Friendship NGO; Deevya Desai, Regional Public Affairs of Grab; Marko Kasic of FundLife; and Daiana Beitler, APC Philanthropies Lead, Microsoft Asia, among others.
