DESCRIPTION:

It’s halftime for the 2016 GameDay Recycling Challenge!

The GameDay Recycling Challenge (GDRC) is a friendly competition that encourages sustainability in collegiate athletics by promoting waste reduction and recycling practices in football stadiums and at tailgating areas. Many of the GDRC events coincide with America Recycles Day, a Keep America Beautiful national initiative.

During the competition, schools track tailgate and stadium landfill and recycling weights; the totals are used to rank schools in their collegiate football conferences as well as nationally. At the current pace, the 78 participating colleges and universities are on track to surpass 1 million pounds of recycled materials this season.

The final games from the fall football season will be reported by Monday, Dec. 5, with the best performers announced on Monday, Dec. 12.

Check out the 2016 GDRC Halftime Report for a look into this season's highlights!

The GameDay Recycling Challenge is administered by the College and University Recycling Coalition (CURC), RecycleMania, Keep America Beautiful and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise.
