Office Depot, Inc. recently recognized Eastman with two awards for leadership in greener purchasing and innovations in supply chain.
Over the past several years, Eastman’s indirect procurement team has worked to increase the availability of sustainability-focused office supplies, including recycled paper, remanufactured toner cartridges, and refillable printer ink. Through ongoing collaboration with Office Depot, Eastman has encouraged and recognized employee efforts to purchase “green” office products. In 2014, Office Depot recognized Eastman with an award for Workplace Recycling Efforts followed by a Green Summit co-hosted by the two organizations in 2015.
Willie Frye, global sourcing manager at Eastman, said, “Being 1 of the 22 companies to be recognized for leadership in greener purchasing out of thousands of Office Depot’s customers validates Eastman’s corporate commitment to respecting our environment when procuring indirect materials. We continuously challenge ourselves and our supplier base to identify innovative ideas that protect our environment while allowing Eastman to remain competitive in the marketplace.”
Award winners were selected from among Office Depot’s largest 1,000 customers based on their high green spend percentage compared to others in their sector. Office Depot calculates green spend percentage by comparing a customer’s expenditure on products with eco-attributes such as recycled content, energy-efficiency, non-toxicity, etc., and/or ecolabels such as FSC, EPEAT, GREENGUARD, GreenSeal and EcoLogo. Customer purchases with the highest level of meaningful eco-attributes and ecolabels were given extra weight in the selection process.
With these awards, Office Depot hopes to spark a greener trend among their value chain and beyond. “By recognizing our customers for achieving their sustainability goals, they’ll continue to make greener purchasing decisions in the future and we believe that other organizations will follow,” said Molly Ray, senior manager of sustainability for Office Depot.
