SOURCE:Arrow Electronics

DESCRIPTION:

Arrow Electronics’ global headquarters campus located just outside Denver was one of five stops on the Mountain Plains Minority Supplier Development Counsel’s (MPMSDC) annual bus tour event last month.

Arrow representatives welcomed 20 MPMSDC tour participants from various regional industries and businesses, providing them with a tour of the Fortune 500 global technology company’s facilities, including its Engineering Solutions Center and SAM Car racing simulator. Tour participants even tried their hands, or rather their heads, at racing around a track in the simulator, which is modeled on the semi-autonomous vehicle that Arrow helped create for quadriplegic former racecar driver Sam Schmidt.

“It was a great opportunity to demonstrate the positive and practical impacts that diversity can have on technology and innovation,” said Denika Dwyer, contracts and proposals manager at Arrow, who helped to organize the event. “This was a great opportunity to exchange ideas with like-minded business leaders in the community through a supplier diversity lens.”

Currently, Arrow’s efforts to expand diversity are demonstrated in three primary areas: recruiting and talent development; community engagement and sponsorships; and partnering with diverse suppliers to fulfill the needs of customers. Arrow’s Corporate Social Responsibility program helps foster these initiatives. Learn more by visiting https://www.arrow.com/en/about-arrow/corporate-social-responsibility.

VIDEO | Dynamic Working is a Win-Win at Barclays

$

SOURCE:Barclays

DESCRIPTION:

As the UK marks National Work Life Week, we hear how dynamic ways of working have become embedded in Barclays’ culture, empowering colleagues to work in the way that suits their lives – and leaving the bank better able to serve customers’ needs.

Mark Campbell is an Assistant Branch Manager at a London branch of Barclays. He also cares for his wife, who has a disability.

Earlier this year, he found himself struggling to meet his commitments at work and home. “I was working long hours, leaving work early and getting home late at night, and then having to do the household chores,” he says. Meals were late and he had no time to spend with his family.

When his branch moved to another location – with extended opening hours – his manager Jackie Carter suggested that he compress his five working days into four, giving him an extra day off during the week to spend with his family.

“He is much less stressed,” says Jackie. “He looks and feels lighter in his approach, and that’s very nice to see.” Not only that, the new arrangement has benefited the branch in Woolwich, south east London, with Mark available to open up first thing in the morning and help customers at the end of the day.

News ways of working

Mark is one of thousands of Barclays colleagues who have adopted dynamic ways of working, whether compressing or reducing their hours, job sharing, working remotely or having different start and finish times.

Just under 60% of Barclays staff work flexibly, whether to help with childcare or other caring responsibilities or pursue other passions outside work. Those who adopt this approach express greater satisfaction with their jobs and with the organisation.

Barclays introduced a formal dynamic working campaign in 2014, and has since trained more than 3,500 managers in Dynamic Working, to help them understand its impact on the bank’s working culture. Any Barclays employee, no matter what their role is or how long their service, can request dynamic working.

“Dynamic Working is a critical lever for us to engage and help enhance the productivity of the five generations working at Barclays,” says Mark McLane, Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion. “By offering colleagues an opportunity to design their own work patterns, it enables a better integration between work and personal commitments and readies us to be a great workplace of the future, today.”

Give and take

Asset Manager Chris Burrell adjusted his working hours to allow him to fulfil his role as a Trustee for a charity. He now starts earlier four days a week and uses the time accrued to free up one afternoon a week.

“Having an afternoon when I am not working has enabled me to have meetings with auditors, charity advisers and other stakeholders within the working week, and it’s enabled me to be more visible to the trust employees,” he says.

On top of that, Chris says being able to organise his work around other commitments has made him more motivated and focused at Barclays. “It means I am in the office earlier, when it is usually quieter and when I work best. I usually start the day doing something which needs a clear head.”

The head of the team, Susie Ralph, says rearranging Chris’s working pattern “was all about thinking how we could make it work, rather than why it won’t”. She says the “give and take mentality” is embedded in her team’s culture – and that it benefits the business as well as the employee.

“We don’t even need to talk about it,” she says. “If one of my team has a child’s sports day to go to, I won’t ask them to make that time up, because I know if we have a day that’s really busy, they will stay until that transaction is finished.

“It’s our job to provide an end-to-end experience for our customers. That means having motivated, loyal staff who can respond to their changing needs. By offering my team dynamic working options, I know they’ll be motivated to step up when I need them, without me needing to ask.”

Family planning

When Craig Watterson and his partner found themselves without childcare, he spoke to his manager Donna Butler about rearranging his hours. Now Craig, who has a position in Data Operations, still works full-time, but spreads his hours over split shifts and weekends so that he can look after his children and his partner can attend college.

“If I hadn’t been able to work dynamically, I probably would have had to leave Barclays or reduce my hours considerably. So, it’s really good.”

Barclays named one of “most family friendly employers”

Barclays was this week named as one of the Top 10 Employers for Working Families in the annual benchmark compiled by work life balance charity Working Families. Hundreds of companies from across the UK compete to gain a place on the list, which looks at how integrated and consistent their flexible working policies are across the business. Sarah Jackson, Chief Executive of Working Families, said: “Congratulations to Barclays whose flexible, agile approach has earned them a much-coveted place on [our list]. Flexibility is not just good for families, it makes perfect business sense.”

A global initiative committing major international food producers to tough new targets on food waste has been unveiled at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly’s Climate Week in New York.

In prioritising food loss, the GAA is underscoring its ambition to address sustainability across global agricultural supply chains, it said.

American Standard Wins 2017 WaterSense Partner of the Year

DESCRIPTION:

PISCATAWAY, N.J., October 6, 2017 /3BL Media/ ― American Standard, part of the LIXIL Corporation, has been recognized with a 2017 WaterSense Manufacturer Partner of the Year Award for the brand’s ongoing efforts to increase awareness about water conservation and the use of WaterSense labeled products. A two-time winner of this distinction from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), American Standard demonstrated the importance of looking toward the future through its research and development of new water-efficient technologies.

The WaterSense program, sponsored by the EPA, supports product certification and encourages consumers to reduce their water usage through water saving products and services, as well as by making simple changes in behavior to help conserve water. The WaterSense Partner of the Year awards recognize organizations that are on the cutting edge of water efficiency, innovation, collaboration and outreach.

“It is a sincere honor for American Standard to be recognized as a 2017 WaterSense Partner of the Year by the EPA for our conservation-minded innovations and commitment to ongoing research and public education around the critical issue of saving water,” said Steven Delarge, president and CEO of LIXIL Americas, the division under which American Standard operates. “Helping to raise awareness about the importance of reducing water use by supporting the WaterSense program is a natural fit for American Standard, and it’s a mission that we’re privileged to pursue.”

American Standard is being recognized for substantially increasing media coverage for the WaterSense program, garnering more than 273 million impressions in 2016, which is a 50 percent increase over the previous year. The brand’s social media channels also touted the water conservation message, particularly with their successful Facebook contest conducted during the EPA’s Fix a Leak Week.

Additionally, American Standard demonstrated a commitment to water conservation by celebrating the brand’s newest WaterSense labeled showerheads, faucets, and ultra-high efficiency toilets through the Beauty in Motion truck tour, launched in May 2016. These mobile showrooms toured the country and made a total of 136 stops during 2016, reaching more than 6,000 professionals and consumers with their exhibits that showcased water efficient plumbing products.

American Standard’s research included a partnership with the Plumbing Efficiency Research Coalition (PERC) to complete a joint study about the effect of slope, size, toilet paper choice, and flushing characteristics on drain line carry in plumbing systems.

The brand also continued their support for Plumbers Without Borders (PWB) in 2016, helping the group promote their mission to increase access to safe water and sanitation worldwide by connecting volunteer plumbers with international aid organizations.

Accepting the award on behalf of American Standard at the WaterSmart Innovations 2017 show in Las Vegas today were Jay Londhe, vice president of engineering, and C.J. Lagan, senior manager of compliance and testing, LIXIL Americas.

“Since 2006, utilities, manufacturers, retailers, builders, communities, states, and other organizations have voluntarily supported WaterSense program’s efforts to protect and preserve our nation’s water supply for future generations,” said WaterSense Program Manager Veronica Blette. “By saving water together, these award winners and all of our partners help consumers and businesses realize the environmental and economic benefits of water efficiency.”

Over the past decade, American Standard and nearly 2,000 other WaterSense partners have helped consumers save more than 2.1 trillion gallons of water, or more than the amount used by all U.S. households for 75 days. In addition to water savings, WaterSense labeled products and homes have helped reduce the amount of energy needed to heat, pump, and treat water by 284 billion kilowatt hours — which is enough to power more than 26.3 million homes for a year — and save $46.3 billion in water and energy bills.

Cash and in-kind product donations to support Unidos por Puerto Rico, Rebuild Texas Fund and the Florida Disaster Fund

SOURCE:CVS Health

DESCRIPTION:

WOONSOCKET, R.I., October 6, 2017 /3BL Media/ - CVS Health [NYSE:CVS] today announced that its customers and colleagues donated nearly $4 million to support the Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico communities that were devastated by recent hurricanes, during a 10-day in-store fundraising campaign. The company also announced that it will donate more than $6 million of critical products and supplies to these communities, bringing CVS Health’s total support to $10 million.

The funds will be split evenly between Unidos por Puerto Rico, Rebuild Texas Fund and the Florida Disaster Fund to help support rebuilding efforts in these affected communities over the coming weeks and months. Products will be distributed to communities where they are needed the most.

“We are incredibly grateful to our colleagues and customers who have demonstrated our values of caring and integrity over the past few weeks during these historic storms,” said Helena B. Foulkes, executive vice president, CVS Health and president, CVS Pharmacy. “The rebuilding process for many of these communities will take a long time, and we will continue to do our part by providing support during this difficult time.”

To ensure patients and customers received the medications and information they needed during the recent hurricanes, CVS Health mobilized an enterprise-wide effort to help with preparations and accommodations prior to and after the storms.

The company’s proprietary messaging platform enabled rapid and urgent communications to patients who were in the path of hurricanes. Text messages were sent to tens of thousands of patients, reminding them to plan ahead for any potential disruption from the storm. The messages also helped ensure delivery of specialty and other medications for patients in transition between home and safe shelter locations.

Additionally, the catastrophic impact and wide-spread power outages in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria posed particular challenges in coordinating resources for colleagues, customers and patients. In response, CVS Health transported much-needed specialty medications and essential equipment to support store operations in Puerto Rico and, in some cases, delivered medication directly to individual patients who were in need.

“While it is never easy to manage through storms of this magnitude, hundreds of our colleagues have gone above and beyond to ensure that our patients, customers and communities are being served, despite the devastation impacting their own personal lives,” added Eileen Howard Boone, president of the CVS Health Charitable Foundation. “Their generosity, compassion and dedication to serving others – whether it be patients, residents or co-workers – is truly amazing.”

In addition to the funds raised through the in-store campaign, CVS Health and the CVS Health Foundation, colleagues and customers had previously donated nearly $800,000 in cash and in-kind product donations to the American Red Cross, Direct Relief, Salvation Army, Florida Disaster Fund, Unidos por Puerto Rico, Rebuild Texas Fund, the Greater Houston Community Foundation and the CVS Health Employee Relief Fund, a public charity designed to help CVS Health employees during unanticipated and unavoidable financial hardships and emergencies.

Agency honors Kohler with fifth Sustained Excellence award for its commitment to action and consumer education

SOURCE:Kohler Co.

DESCRIPTION:

KOHLER, Wis., October 6, 2017 /3BL Media/ - Kohler Co. has earned its fifth consecutive Sustained Excellence Award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Kohler, the leading manufacturer of kitchen and bath plumbing products in the U.S., has partnered with the EPA’s WaterSense® program since 2007 and was recognized again in 2017 for its leadership in water-saving product innovation and consumer advocacy.

In 2008, the EPA named Kohler the first recipient of its WaterSense Manufacturer Partner of the Year Award. In each year since, Kohler has earned additional recognition from the EPA, including the agency’s first Sustained Excellence award in 2013.

“Kohler is honored to be recognized as a Sustained Excellence Award winner again this year,” said Rob Zimmerman, Director – Sustainability and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WaSH). “The WaterSense program delivers value on many levels, creating efficiency targets for manufacturers, measurable and significant gains in water use that utilities and regulators can count on, and a recognizable label consumers can look for when purchasing products. Kohler offers more than 700 models of toilets, urinals, bathroom faucets, and showerheads that carry the WaterSense label and promotes the program through a promise of saving water without sacrificing performance.”

In recognizing Kohler this year, the EPA highlighted Kohler Co.’s success in promoting WaterSense nationwide, donating WaterSense-labeled products to various events and charitable causes, and releasing an industry-leading, water-efficient toilet. The 1.0 gallons per flush Highline toilet combines gravity with precision-engineered design that creates a stronger flush with less water.

The Highline toilet was featured prominently in Kohler’s Sustainability Campaign, which produced 4.8 million impressions. The campaign used Instagram and Facebook to target customers in states plagued by droughts in 2016, including California, Washington, Oregon, and Arizona.

Kohler also sponsors a mobile marketing campaign in key states to showcase working models of WaterSense-labeled toilets, faucets and showerheads. In 2016, the company added a new semi-trailer unit to its water-saving fleet and visited 175 home shows, conferences, and professional plumbing supply stores to tout the performance and benefits of WaterSense-labeled plumbing fixtures. Overall, more than 36,000 plumbing professionals and other visitors toured the trailers, a 90 percent increase from the previous year.

Kohler exhibited its WaterSense labeled products at major trade shows such as Design & Construction Week in Las Vegas and Dwell on Design and Greenbuild in Los Angeles. Kohler donated WaterSense-labeled products to homes for disabled veterans through the Homes for Our Troops organization. The company also continued its partnership with the Lavamae mobile showering project for homeless residents in California by donating WaterSense-labeled toilets, faucets, and showerheads.

Since the first WaterSense-labeled KOHLER products were introduced, those products have empowered consumers to reduce water use by more than 140 billion gallons and save more than $2.3 billion in water, sewer and energy costs. The labels make it easy for consumers to identify and purchase products that save water while maintaining the performance excellence and sophisticated design for which Kohler has long been renowned.

DESCRIPTION:

Over the past two years, Cenovus has intentionally supported organizations and causes that have experienced increased demand during the downturn - focusing on basic needs, mental health and vulnerable populations with more philanthropically-motivated donations.

When the price of oil was around the $100 mark, the community investment team at Cenovus was carefully investing millions of dollars in three strategic areas that aligned with both the integrated oil company's focus areas (learning, safety and well-bring, and sustainable communities) and their business values.

And then, in 2014, the price of oil plummeted to $27.

Alberta was thrown into a brutal recession. Tens of thousands of people lost their jobs across the province. The community investment team at Cenovus - itself drastically reduced in both number of employees and budget - started looking more at refocusing their strategy on what people in the community needed to survive.

In 2016, they committed nearly $300,000 to 25 organizations including food banks, breakfast, lunch and nutrition programs, and community kitchens. Over $340,000 was invested into eight organizations providing mental health services across Alberta.

"We weren't caught up with 'this has to be part of our long-term strategy'," says Vicki Reid, Cenovus Director of Community Affairs.

While the community investment strategy adapted with the economic circumstances, the Cenovus team stayed true to its values. One of the team's first principles was to honour existing agreements and continue open and honest communications with community partners. The team also developed exit strategies for agreements that were due to end and looked for other ways to support organizations.

Staff giving/volunteering activities were encouraged through matching programs, and non-monetary donations like office space, computers and kitchen equipment.

"In the same way we adapt our business to the current economic conditions, we also respond to our communities' changing and evolving needs. The challenging economic times for the oil and gas industry mean our communities have an increased need for support since they're also feeling the impact."

"People have appreciated our honesty and understood this shift in focus," says Reid.

"They've also appreciated that we are still looking at other ways we can support their work beyond just financial contributions."

The community investment team at Cenovus, which have been part of the LBG Canada network since 2011, sees business benefit and community benefit on a spectrum. "Sometimes it's on the other side more heavily and sometimes it's on the other side more heavily," says Reid. "And sometimes there is a sweet spot where they are perfectly balanced."

DESCRIPTION:

DAVIDSON, N.C., October 6, 2017 /3BL Media/ - Ingersoll Rand (NYSE: IR), a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments, will participate in Manufacturing Day at its facilities around the world. During a month-long schedule of events, Ingersoll Rand is inviting students to tour their facilities and learn about career opportunities in modern manufacturing.

The company and its family of brands – Club Car®, Ingersoll Rand®Thermo King® and Trane®– is committed to engaging the next generation of skilled workers in the opportunities and benefits that come with a career in manufacturing.

“The future of the manufacturing industry relies on the ability of tomorrow’s workforce to address global trends like climate change and exponential technologies that impact the way we live, work and move,” said Michael W. Lamach, chairman and CEO of Ingersoll Rand. “By showing the next generation of manufacturers the importance of thinking bigger and acting bolder to solve these global challenges, we are doing the right thing for our communities, our environment and the future of manufacturing.”

Ingersoll Rand sites around the United States are participating, including Hastings, Nebraska; La Crosse, Wisconsin; Fort Smith, Arkansas; St. Paul, Minnesota; Trenton, New Jersey; Vidalia, Georgia; Augusta, Georgia; Mocksville, North Carolina; and Davidson, North Carolina. Internationally, participating facilities can be found in Galway, Ireland, and Vignate, Italy. Students will learn about the manufacturing process, pathways to manufacturing leadership and how sustainability is integral to the future of the manufacturing industry.

“Over the next decade, modern manufacturing will generate 3.5 million job openings. Through Manufacturing Day, the CreatorsWanted.org campaign and other critical programming, the NAM and The Manufacturing Institute have remained at the forefront of developing workforce solutions to help meet this need and close the skills gap that threatens to leave 2 million manufacturing jobs unfilled by 2025,” said Manufacturing Institute Executive Director Carolyn Lee. “Giving our young people and their parents the chance to see firsthand the promise of a career in modern manufacturing can turn the tide and combat the myths that harm the perception of manufacturing careers in America.”

Ingersoll Rand’s Manufacturing Day celebrations launched on Oct. 2, 2017 and extend throughout the month of October. High school, trade school and university students interested in visiting a facility near them are encouraged to reach out to local leadership to schedule a visit or Shannon Bennett at 704-655-5782 or Shannon.Bennett@irco.com to learn more about participating sites.

Ingersoll Rand Climate Commitment
Ingersoll Rand made a commitment to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its products and operations by 2030. The company’s Climate Commitment pledges to:

  • Cut the refrigerant GHG footprint of its products by 50 percent by 2020 and incorporate lower global warming potential (GWP) alternatives across its portfolio by 2030;
  • Invest $500 million in product-related research and development over the next five years to fund the long-term reduction of GHG emissions; and
  • Reduce company operations-related GHG emissions by 35 percent by 2020.

To date, the commitment has supported the avoidance of approximately 6.7 million metric tons of CO2e globally, which is the equivalent of avoiding annual CO2 emissions from energy used in more than 700,000 homes. To support the commitment, Ingersoll Rand launched EcoWise™, a portfolio of products designed to lower environmental impact with next-generation, low-global warming potential refrigerants and high efficiency operation. By 2030, the company expects to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 million metric tons.

AT&T and Girls Scouts Teach Kids the Power of Code

By Nicole Anderson, Assistant Vice President and President of the AT&T Foundation

SOURCE:AT&T

DESCRIPTION:

I loved being a Brownie. My mom was our troop leader, and it was fun to sing “Make new friends but keep the old” in a round.  I felt proud earning badges and wearing my uniform, and liked competing with the other girls in my troop on who could sell the most Girl Scout cookies. I now realize that these early lessons in setting goals, learning new skills and being part of a team helped prepare me for adulthood.  But I’ll admit that I’m envious of the badges girls can earn these days – coding and robotics!  These are critical STEM skills that are key to their future success.

At AT&T, we are constantly looking for talented people to join our STEM troops, I mean teams. That’s why we invest in programs like Girl Scouts that introduce young people to the language of coding and its power to impact their future. Last year, we launched the AT&T Kids Coding Camp for our employees and their children to code together. They used curriculum from one of our AT&T Aspire Accelerator companies, Bitsbox, to teach kids the basics of coding and how to build their own apps.

This year, as we prepare for the Girl Scouts of the USA’s national convention: G.I.R.L. 2017, we are inviting Girl Scouts to join us at these camps around the country. G.I.R.L. stands for “Go-getter. Innovator. Risk-taker. Leader.” These are characteristics that AT&T values and encourages in its employees. I believe that learning to code can inspire and empower girls to embody the spirit of G.I.R.L. and be the STEM leaders of tomorrow.  Seems you can still learn new skills but keep the old traditions that makes being a Girl Scout so great in the first place!

GAITHERSBURG, Md., October 6, 2017 /3BL Media/ - The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation today announced the opening of the application period for the 2018 Stephen J. “Recognizing that youth-led initiatives provide innovative solutions, we strive to encourage and empower them to help end hunger today and tomorrow,” said Gerri Mason Hall, chair, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation and senior vice president, human resources services for Sodexo North America. “These programs really impact the quality of life for children and families which is a core mission for our organization.”

Up to five national scholarship recipients will be selected based on their ongoing work to end hunger. The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation will also recognize up to 20 Stop Hunger regional honorees with a $1,000 donation for their preferred hunger-relief charity.
